What Disorders Do We Treat?
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism is one of the most widely known and among the most common developmental disorders in the world. Many times, people affected by Autistic disorders such as Aspergers and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder need a specific level of care and style of learning to help them reach their full potential. Early diagnosis and Autism treatment and therapy can make all the difference for your child or loved one.
As the result of an extra chromosome in a fetus, Down Syndrome affects many aspects of a child's development from a very early age. For individuals diagnosed with this disorder, many skills can be impacted and thus, the use of a therapist or treatment clinic from an early age is vital to their development. Jones Therapy has many therapists and advocates who are properly equipped with the knowledge needed to help your child be a champion while overcoming many of their struggles!
CP is a disorder that directly affects a person's muscle groups and motor skills. Like many developmental disorders, CP is not curable, but treatment and therapy will surely improve an individuals quality of life. At Jones Therapy's Franklins Clinic, we treat CP patients through a variety of Occupational, Physical, Speech, and Feeding Therapy regimens that help our patients live happily and comfortably with cerebral palsy.
Apraxia of Speech
This is simply a motor speech disorder and occurs due to a disconnect between the patients brain and their jaw, tongue, mouth and lips which are necessities for speech. This disconnect makes it very difficult to sound out certain words and pronounce certain syllables. Because of this disconnect, the patient knows exactly what it is they want to say, but just can't form the words they wish too and this can be extremely frustrating to the patient. To help break this disconnect, Speech and Language Therapy is vital and can make a significant difference for your child.
Articulation and Phonological Disorders
As a young child is learning speech, it is typical for him/her to mispronounce certain sounds. However, as a child grows we expect those typical, developmental errors to be abandoned. If errors in articulation persist, there may be a problem with speech development. Many speech sound disorders are of unknown cause and will not be outgrown on their own. Our Speech-Language Pathologists in Franklin are trained to treat speech sound disorders of unknown origin and also those due to genetic disorders, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing Loss, and other developmental delays.
Self Help Skills
Self-help skills are skills needed to develop independency such as getting dressed, personal hygiene, learning the value of money, cooking, cleaning, etc. The secret to success is to give individuals age-appropriate experiences and provide the appropriate supports to help children be successful. Occupational Therapy can offer opportunities for children to develop self-help skills and give them ample time to work on these important tasks.
